Power Industry Distribution Cable Jointer
Cable jointers work in the power industry for power network owners, operators, or contractors. They connect new supplies, divert and make alterations to existing supplies, and locate and repair faults on the underground power distribution network.
They work on the electricity distribution network that supplies electricity to homes and businesses. They work on low voltage (LV) and high-voltage networks up to 11,000 volts, including LV live working. Cable jointers connect new supplies, divert and make alterations to existing supplies, and locate and repair faults.
Safety is a top priority for the industry.
Gateway Requirements
Apprentices must:
- have achieved English and mathematics qualifications in line with the apprenticeship funding rules
- have passed Emergency first aid 1 day course
- submit a portfolio of evidence for the interview based on an EPA portfolio
The Assessment
Apprentices will be assessed by EUIAS assessors, and EUIAS approved employer assessors.
The end point assessment consists of four elements:
- Multiple-choice test (40 questions, 60 minutes)
- Interview based on an EPA portfolio (60 minutes, minimum 8 questions)
- Trade test practical assessment with questions (30-37.5 hours, minimum 10 questions)
- Trade test technical interview (60 minutes, minimum 6 questions)
